Vikalp Sangam: A Movement for Alternatives

In the face of irreversible ecological damage, social and economic inequality, and other crises, there are exciting alternative initiatives for meeting human needs across India. These emphasise direct political and economic democracy, social justice and equality, cultural diversity and knowledge commons, and ecological wisdom, based on ethics of solidarity, freedom, rights and responsibilities. The Vikalp Sangam process attempts to bring these initiatives together for learning, collaboration, advocacy, and collective visioning. This short video introduces the context of Vikalp Sangam.

The Stuff of Imaginaries

In the face of the climate crisis, we are experiencing a collective cluelessness that the writer Amitav Ghosh calls ‘The Great Derangement’. The stories that command our lives obscure the reality we’re living through. How do we birth new ones that will lead us to better futures? The Stuff of Imaginaries, produced by the Grounded Imaginaries Project, explores the power of stories and what they can offer us in these unpredictable times.

Eco-swaraj - Radical Ecological Democracy: Towards a Sustainable, Equitable World

Radical alternative initiatives, some from ancient times, some emerging recently, are showing pathways out of the multiple global crises we face: ecological collapse, climate crisis, socio-economic inequality, conflicts, other kinds of injustice. What can we learn from grounded initiatives at meeting human needs without trashing the earth or creating inequalities?
